Rock of Tiger holding a Pig in between its Teeth and Fish Fin Rock
The “Rock of Tiger holding a Pig in between its Teeth” is located atop “Pau Toi Chai” Hill of Coloane Island and the “Fish Fin Rock” is on the slope of the Hill.Looking up the “Pau Toi Chai” Hill from the rotunda along Estrada da Aldeia of Coloane, a drove of “fat piglets” is seen fleeing away in fright as a tiger is preying on them.
The tiger is the tamed spiritual beast kept by Tam Kong, the resident deity of Tam Kong Temple located at the southwestern foot of “Pau Toi Chai” Hill. Born in the Yuan dynasty of China, Tam Kong practiced Taoist teachings at the Nine Dragon Mount (referred as “Peak Bi” in the couplet on the door of Tam Kong Temple) seated to the east of Huizhou city of Guangdong province. Whenever he went out, Tam Kong brought along with him a tiger that always carried his food basket in between its teeth. There is actually a relief of the tiger on the northern wall of Tam Kong Temple.
Frightened by the scene of the tiger carrying the piglet by its teeth, a fish on a hill slope about 100 meters afar jumped into the “water” to make its escape. Yet its “fin” is still visible, henceforth known as the “Fish Fin Rock”.
