Origin of “Dai Tat Dei” (Large Open Market Fair)
Besides San Kio district of Macao, “Dai Tat Dei” was held at Rotunda de Carlos da Maia, Largo do Pagode do Bazar and Praça Ponte e Horta in the past. It was a market fair where eager vendors and spontaneous buskers gathered to make a living out of their sales of goods and street performances. With the course of social development, only a few districts still have “Dai Tat Dei” within their neighborhood though the mode of business has changed over time. The goods for sale in the one located in front of Lin Kai Temple of San Kio district nowadays are mostly old stuff from the surrounding residents and unwanted stuff of those intended to move house. In the past, the “Dai Tat Dei” of San Kio would be populated by vendors from all around with a huge variety of goods to offer, like clothes, old books, secondhand products and electronic appliances. Many people would make an effort to get up early in the morning to hunt for a good bargain.
