The Canossian Daughters of Charity
The Quasi-Parish of S. Francisco Xavier of Mong-Ha district, with S. Francisco Xavier Church as its mother church, was originated from the Santo António Parish. The Centre of Mong-Ha Church is seated to the left of the church, with the nameplate of “Canossian Institute of Mong-Ha” affixed to it. It is managed by the Canossian Daughters of Charity, a Catholic order founded in Italy during 1808 with headquarter seated in Rome. In 1860, the sisters of the congregation arrived to Hong Kong and set up its Provincial House of Hong Kong and Macao over there. After reaching Macao in 1874, they began to render educational, pastoral, healthcare and social welfare services to the population. The S. Francisco Xavier Elderly Home, opened in 1965, stands on the right side of the church. It was formerly a nursery founded by the Canossian Daughters of Charity in 1907.
