Story of Killer Rock and Sea Pirates

The Killer Rock lies in front of the swimming-pool to the southeast of Cheoc Van Beach.

According to the old townsfolk of Coloane, the sea pirates of the island used to slaughter their victims and drained their blood on the Killer Rock a century ago since it has a natural flat surface. As many people were killed over the decades, the rim of the rock is covered in reddish black “bloodstain”, which is still visible nowadays (by scientific explanation, the biotite in the rock becomes “rusty” upon reacting to the salt content in the pounding sea waves). But then, what’s the reason behind the killings? Allegedly, the rock was the place where organized pirates killed kidnappees whose ransom was not paid and executed their captured spies. Back in the past, any unfamiliar faces arriving to Coloane would be inquired. If they fail to come up with the name of their relatives in Coloane, they would be suspected of spying for the government.
