Belief in Kuan Tai
Kuan Tai was a valiant military general during his mortal life before he became deified after death. Allegedly, Taoist monks are able to invoke Kuan’s spirit. He is a popular deity venerated by many Chinese people for he has the power to kill demons and ward off evils.Kuan Tai is one of the many gods of wealth venerated by people in Macao. He is worshipped by merchants, businessmen as well as by law enforcement officers and gangsters.
As to the origin of Kuan Tai Temple and Tin Hau Temple, one of the sources said that it was dated back to early Qing dynasty. The oldest extant cultural relics kept by the Temple are two pairs of couplets gifted by believers during the 17th year of reign of Emperor Daoguang of Qing dynasty (1837), one in the Kuan Tai Temple and the other in Tin Hau Temple.
