The Biggest Indoor Buddhist Statue of Macao
The Hall of the Sixth Patriarch is the oldest structure within the precinct of Pou Tai Monastery. It was demolished in the 1990s for reconstruction.Nowadays, the principle structures of the Monastery are the Mahavira Hall, Po Meng Hall and the Dharma Protector Pavilion, which were completed in 1991 and in the 1960s respectively. The Mahavira Hall is consecrated to Sakyamuni Buddha, where its bronze statue is seated at the central. It was casted in Nanjing and subsequently shipped to the Monastery. The 5.4 metres height statue weighing 6.5 tons is so far the biggest indoor Buddhist statue across Macao. It is a replica of the bronze statue housed in the Po Lin Monastery of Hong Kong, though smaller by scale. The Po Meng Hall is dedicated to the Three Precious Buddhas, Sakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha and Bhaisajyaguru Buddha.
