Origin of Pui Ching Middle School
With the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Pui Ching Middle School of Guangzhou was relocated to Macao in 1938 to avoid the subsequent turmoil and continued its operation over there. This marked the founding of Pui Ching Middle School of Macao. When the war was over, the School began to run primary education and resumed its junior secondary program in 1947. Some years later, by 1953, it started to provide senior secondary studies to become a non-profitmaking and privately-run secondary school, offering primary to full secondary education. In 1952, it acquired a portion of land within “Yu Yuen” (Pleasurable Garden, another name of the Lou Lim Ieoc Garden of today), from a company under Ho Yin to be its permanent school premises. The schoolhouses and teaching facilities built on this 7,500m2 plot of land have remained in use until the present day.The private villa of the Lou’s family, the largest structure within “Yu Yuen”, has been turned into the Administrative Building of the School. Seated at the central of the premises, the Building is a structure of classic beauty in unique architectural style. It has been classified as a major historical site under protection by the government of Macao.
