Cheng Peng Theatre

The Cheng Peng Theatre was the first movie theatre opened in Macao. It was built by Vong Lok, a prominent Chinese merchant of Macao during the late Qing dynasty era. By the time it was up and running in 1875, most of the shows it staged were Cantonese operas. From time to time, big names in the Chinese operatic scene were invited to come over to stage their famous works. In 1992, the Theatre was closed down.
