Carnes Fumadas Keng Un Chan

Run by the same family for four generations, “Carnes Fumadas Keng Un Chan” has stayed in business for over a century, specialized in sale of Chinese “lap-mei” (cured meat), preserved fruit, dried fruit, pastry and biscuits. Initially, the family opened its shop called “景然” (Keng Un) in Rua de Cinco de Outubro. Later, it opened another one named “景然棧” (Keng Un Chan) in Rua dos Mercadores, with the Chinese character “棧” (Chan) signifying branch store. The old-style plaque, bearing an inscription by “juren” (a person who passed the triennial provincial examination under the civil service examination system of China in the Ming and Qing dynasties) in the shop, is evidence of its long-standing history.
