Lotus Square

The Lotus Square, situated at the intersection of Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, Avenida Marciano Baptista, and Avenida da Amizade, was established in 1999 in celebration of Macao’s Handover. It is an important memorial site in Macao. In the Square, there is a large gild bronze sculpture “Lotus Flower in Full Bloom”, given by the Central Government, the main part of which is composed of the stem, petals and pistils, with 16 components in total. The base, representing Macao’s three islands, is constituted by 23 overlapping pieces of red granite. The base is similar to the lotus leaves in shape. The blooming lotus flower expresses the motherland’s sincere wish for Macao’s better future, which symbolises Macao’s everlasting prosperity.
