Lin Fong Temple

The Lin Fong Temple, A-Má Temple and Pou Chai Temple are the three oldest temples of Macao. The horizontal plaque bearing the inscription “中外流恩” (China and Foreign Lands Benefited from its Grace) affixed to the square gazebo erected in Lin Fong Temple revealed that it was founded over 400 years ago, during the reign of Emperor Wangli of Ming dynasty. But the existing layout of the Temple was dated back to 1876. The fact that it houses a pantheon of gods and deities in different halls, namely Kun Iam (Bodhisattva of Compassion), Tin Hau (Heavenly Empress), Shennong (Emperor of the Five Grains), Lord Kuan and Golden Flower Lady, is evidential that people of the past were polytheistic, a typical feature of Lingnan folk culture.
