Site of the Ancestral Hall of Chiu’s Clan of Mong-Há Village

According to the genealogy of the Chiu’s clan, the lineage of the clan in Mong-Há Village was carried by the male-line of descendants of Emperor Taizong of Song dynasty. They migrated to Southern China and by the 22nd generation of the clan, Chiu Ieng Yuk settled down in Macao in 1644. By early Qing dynasty, Chiu Fung Seak built the “Ancestral Hall of Chiu’s Clan” somewhere opposite to Kun Iam Tong Temple. After the Ancestral Hall was destroyed by a severe typhoon in 1874, the members of the clan did not reconstruct it. Later on, a barrack to accommodate Portuguese soldiers was built on the site of the Ancestral Hall. Nowadays, it has been replaced by high-rise buildings.
